Accused Stalker Asked: 'But Suppose I Could Be Madeleine?'
A individual accused with harassing Kate McCann apparently recorded her a voicemail message which questioned: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, 24, who court testimony revealed has consistently claimed she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are facing charges indicted with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court was told call records and evidence recovered from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a biological test throughout the past two years.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - when she was three years old during a family holiday in Portugal - is considered the most covered missing child cases and remains unsolved.
'I Don't Want Money'
Another phone message, played in court, documented Ms Wandelt declaring: "I understand I'm heavy and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I believe what I know."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's answerphone expressed: "Imagine there is a small chance that I am she? What then? Isn't that crucial for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I maintain a life here in Poland, I simply desire to understand," the message continued.
The panel was advised that by means of electronic messages, text messages and communications, Ms Wandelt requested a genetic test, transmitted early photographs to her phone in a bid to demonstrate a resemblance to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and stated to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.
The investigator, an investigator with the police force who compiled the evidence, informed the court there "seemed to lack any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also reached out to close associates of the McCanns, according to the call data.
On 9 October 2024, the father picked up a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "incorrect contact information."
During that incident Ms Wandelt recorded a message on Mrs McCann's voicemail stating "I will persist and I will prove my point."
The court learned the co-defendant developed a relationship via internet with Ms Wandelt before joining her on a appearance to the McCanns' residence in that area in last December.
Communication data demonstrated Mrs Spragg had reached out through communication app to Mrs McCann to express the news outlets had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she should be considered genuine in the months before the trip to Rothley, Leicestershire, in that winter.
The court learned correspondence between the two defendants, in last November, considering trying to get Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her bins or from cutlery at a dining venue.
"We have to make a stand," Mrs Spragg advised Ms Wandelt.
On the occasion of the visit to their home, the defendant dispatched a communication which stated: "We find ourselves sat outside the McCanns' home with our headlights off similar to investigators. I desired to accomplish this with someone else I hadn't anticipated I would be doing that with the McCanns."
The trial continues.
