The controversial, US and Israel-backed Gaza relief foundation says it is terminating its relief activities in the affected area, after almost six months.

The organisation had previously halted its several relief locations in Gaza following the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel took effect in recent weeks.

The GHF aimed to bypass the UN as the main supplier of humanitarian assistance to Gazans.

United Nations organizations and other humanitarian groups would not collaborate with its approach, claiming it was questionable and hazardous.

Numerous Gazans were killed while trying to acquire nourishment amid chaotic scenes near the organization's distribution points, mainly through Israeli military action, based on UN documentation.

The Israeli military claimed its forces fired warning shots.

Operation Conclusion

The organization declared on the beginning of the week that it was winding down operations now because of the "satisfactory fulfillment of its humanitarian effort", with a total of three million packages containing the corresponding to over 187 million food portions provided to residents.

The organization's top administrator, the executive director, additionally stated the United States-operated coordination body - which has been established to help implement the United States' Palestinian peace proposal - would be "taking over and developing the approach the organization demonstrated".

"GHF's model, in which militant groups were prevented from misappropriating relief supplies, had major impact in getting Hamas to the table and establishing a truce."

Comments and Positions

The militant group - which disputes allegations of misappropriation - approved the termination of the humanitarian foundation, based on information.

A representative of declared GHF should be subject to scrutiny for the harm it caused to local residents.

"We request all international human rights organisations to guarantee that responsibility is assigned after resulting in fatalities and harm of many residents and obscuring the nutritional restriction approach practised by the Israeli government."

Foundation History

The foundation started work in Gaza on May 26th, a seven days following Israeli authorities had somewhat relaxed a comprehensive closure on aid and commercial deliveries to Gaza that persisted for nearly three months and caused severe shortages of necessary provisions.

Three months later, a nutritional emergency was proclaimed in Gaza City.

The organization's sustenance provision locations in the southern and middle regions of Gaza were administered by US private security contractors and positioned in regions under Israeli military authority.

Humanitarian Concerns

The UN and its partners stated the approach violated the basic relief guidelines of neutrality, impartiality and independence, and that guiding distressed residents into military-controlled areas was fundamentally dangerous.

International human rights monitoring body stated it documented the fatalities of no fewer than 859 Gazans seeking food in the vicinity of GHF sites between 26 May and 31 July.

An additional 514 individuals were killed near the courses followed by international humanitarian deliveries, it also mentioned.

The majority of these individuals were fatally wounded by the Israeli forces, according to the office.

Conflicting Accounts

Israel's armed services stated its troops had fired warning shots at individuals who came near them in a "intimidating" manner.

The foundation stated there were no firearm incidents at the distribution centers and accused the UN of using "inaccurate and deceptive" data from Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry.

Future Implications

The GHF's future had been unclear since Palestinian factions and Israeli authorities consented a ceasefire deal to implement the first phase of Trump's peace plan.

The agreement stated aid distribution would take place "free from intervention from the two parties through the United Nations and its agencies, and the international relief society, in combination with other international institutions not linked whatsoever" with Hamas and Israel.

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said on Monday that the foundation's closure would have "no impact" on its activities "because we never worked with them".

He also said that while more aid was getting into Gaza since the halt in hostilities began on early October, it was "insufficient to satisfy all requirements" of the 2.1 million population.
