Warning: spoilers ahead - This piece reveals details from The Celebrity Traitors finale

Throughout the season, audiences saw murders, double-crosses, intense glares, and an unforgettable incident that cut through all suspense.

However on the final evening, the final winner of the first Celebrity Traitors was revealed.

From nineteen participants, just a handful were left standing: Traitors and loyal players competing for the prize.

Soon, the field narrowed to only three contenders: the final players.

In the end, funny man Alan Carr emerged as the winner, in a surprising result that broke the internet and made him tearful.

"It's been tearing me apart, I'm so sorry," he declared, admitting to the remaining faithfuls that he'd always been one of the deceivers. "I'm an awful human being."

"You did brilliantly," they consoled him. "Everything's fine."

Online platforms quickly erupted with this development. "Most awful traitor ever being the most effective player," wrote one user.

"There could not have been a better conclusion," wrote another, while a third called it "the television highlight of the year."

The organization he selected, a cancer charity, gets to keep the entire winnings, with the final pot reaching £87,500.

Warning! Watch the moment The Celebrity Traitors comes to a dramatic conclusion

Alan Carr's transformation from giggle liability to cold-hearted killer was among the most memorable aspects of the series.

But his win still shocked viewers surprised, according to industry observers.

"The idea of Alan, among everyone, executing an expert performance in deception felt just as probable as him maintaining composure through his comedy routines."

During follow-up conversations, the other contestants summed up the reasons nobody had truly doubted him.

"Alan could have appeared to breakfast in a green cloak and I wouldn't have believed he was deceiving us. I was too busy laughing," one participant said.

"The majority didn't target him because how can you vote for a person so charming?" questioned a different contestant.

The winner stated he had "absolutely loved" his experience with the show.

"I'd like to do it again... I doubt it would work again!"

Thursday evening's installment was lengthened to over an hour on television. There was a different start than typical episodes, as all the celebs knew who would appear at the morning gathering.

There was some very uplifting, and atypical for the show music, as we recapped key scenes from every remaining player's time in the castle.

True to form, Alan Carr provided unforgettable quotes.

"Let's face it, I started the competition as something of a nervous wreck. I've thrown close allies to save myself, I've eliminated national treasures in plain sight. I'm clearly more deceptive and player than I thought."

Meanwhile, another contestant commented that being in the final was "significantly more pressure than playing for a national team", while someone else said he was "totally surprised" to have made it so far.

In the beginning in the episode, several players seemed to be attempting to become the new style icon of the castle, taking over from the previously eliminated style leader.

The winner appeared at the morning meal resembling a 1950s US chat show host in patterned burgundy attire, later switching into an embellished light-colored outfit.

But he was out-jacketted by a fellow player's maroon velvet tuxedo. Impressive style.

Following this was the competition, with the final players getting on board a train named - of course - The Deceivers' Railway.

This task involved ripping up portraits of former contestants. Spare a thought for a player who was hit in the head multiple times by the lid of a substantial container.

Before long, it was time for the roundtable.

The deceivers made a pact in advance, pledging to support each other. "We've come a long way, I'm not going to betray him," stated a player, while their partner simply laughed.

However, one did stick to their agreement. Yet, managing to stay unnoticed for most of the game, the other still got the most votes.

The remaining traitor looked like to be experiencing significant distress to be the last traitor standing. "Being alone, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm unpredictable, without direction."

Online platforms and viewers were similarly upset.

"I did NOT want this contestant to be eliminated. A truly loveable traitor," said a commentator.

"You will forever be remembered in Traitors history," posted another user.

However, there remained no time to dwell on their elimination. Soon, they were at the endgame - this being the moment everyone anticipated.

The last players stood over the fire pit. And the alliance collapsed, just when it mattered the most, in a truly WTF moment.

A player was painfully banished - after a shock vote from their ally, who betrayed them.

"This pains me to be betrayed last minute in that manner," remarked the eliminated player. Later, we learned that when they message, the betrayed player refers to the other as a traitor.

Ultimately, just three players were still competing: the final trio.

One player, looking incredibly smug, chose to conclude the competition. The same decision was made by a different player, and everything depended on the final participant, who made the identical choice - resulting in the deceiver emerged victorious.

According to commentators, the scene where remaining contestants consoled the winner was "compelling television". "I predict it could be in the running for memorable moment at television honors," they commented.

Happily, the winner soon recovered from his emotional outburst, and could finally appreciate his victory.

"What a rollercoaster. I thought I was terrible at deception, I had no poker face and now I stand the champion," he said.

And he even joked about the memorable elimination - his close ally in an early episode - by leaning toward the host in the concluding moments and making contact.

"You've got something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.

The last few weeks of famous people scheming, scheming and sometimes unexpected moments may feel like one big crazy jumbled dream. Yet it actually occur. And we will miss it.
